Question to State Farm/Insurance Agency former or current employee/agent..?


I am going to be meeting up with agent coming Tuesday, who is going to hire me from Friday. Couple week ago (before I have attained my Life & Health & Accident, which I have obtained as we speak) we have sat down and talked briefly about the compensation. He has told that compensation is going to be consist of Base + Commission (which I figure & fine with) but he did not go mention any # about the Base. I am not too worried about the commission part since it seems like it gets handled & structured by state farm it self. But from the research I did, seems like base comes out from the overhead cost of agency and I do understand it does vary between agency to agency.

With that said,

1)what is the average base do they pay out for the agent staff?
(FYI: From the look of his office and all, he seems like he just started and opened up his own office recently)

2)do you get a higher payout if you decided to go without base? if so does it worth it or recommend for someone who is started out as new?

3)he has mention avg. associate makes about 48K a year, is that a about the right figure?

Since HE is paying you and not State Farm, you want to see what HIS compensation to you is, prior to working for him. How does your compensation not come up while you were discussing compensation in the interview?

    Remember that the agent is hiring you not State Farm. Again, you work for the agent, not State Farm. So, the agent is your employer who can pay you whatever he wants. And, that even can mean minimum wage. So, you need to ask the agent how much the base is and how much the commission is.

    There are good agents and bad ones in every company. So, find a good one.
