I take my car to an authorized repair shop, they fax the details to the insurance company and have the repair work approved. They repair the car, I pay my deductible and the insurance company pays the balance. Not all insurance company work that way.

I've had it done in a variety of ways: sometimes directly to the repair shop, sometimes to me and the repair shop, and sometimes directly to me.

Claims check will normally be made payable to YOU and your LIENHOLDER or LOSS PAYEE. If you own the auto "free and clear", the check will be made payable to you, and then you will pay the body shop your deductible.
